Dear All, I am a student from McMaster and I was wondering if anyone here knows how they would interpret our 12 point system. I was looking at a chart ( studentsuccess.mcmaster.ca/resources/gpa-conversion-chart.html) and it said that a 12 would be anywhere from 90-100 in terms of Guelph's grade scale. So does this mean when they calculate my admission average a 12 is interpreted as a 90 or 100? Or is it a mid value of 95? I've seen the past admission cycles marks, and I saw that under admitted GPA, the high range had a mark of 97. Either they are from Guelph (highly likely) or McMaster's 12 is interpreted as a 100. Any help is greatly appreciated! I don't really have anywhere in the McMaster forums to post this, so I thought this forum would be the best place. Thanks, Aquavet.

Hey,
Short Answer: I'm pretty sure they'll use the midpoint of the applicable range.
i.e.) A McMaster 12 (90%-100%) would be counted as a 95%
Long Answer and My Explanation: I can't speak to McMaster in particular, but I also had to deal with non-percentage grades since my application had grades from McGill, which used a letter-based system. e.g.) A = 85% - 100% A-= 80% - 84% B+ = 75% - 79% etc.
In my application to the OVC, I was advised (after asking) that the midpoints of the applicable ranges were used.
i.e.) For an A I got (85+100)/2 = 92.5% For an A- I got (80+84)/2 = 82%
Good luck with your application!

If you look at the BIF you can see how they convert your marks.

Yup, drv beat me to it. When I applied (went to Mac too), I wasn't sure how it would be converted and whether it would be in my favour, but it worked out alright. Ignore your 12-scale grade (like 10, 11, 12, etc) and use the letter grade to convert it.
