Hi all
I thought for the benefit of those who are applying from other Ontario universities I'd have some of our first year students post what courses they used for admission.
Keep in mind that you still need to get everything approved with Kelly Hunter since course content may change from one year to the next.
For U of T there is already a thread below ...

I'm no 2016 Caracal, but here's my input for McGill and Waterloo: MCGILL UNIVERSITY Biological SciencesBIOL 111: Principles of Organismal Biology Cell BiologyBIOL 112: Cell and Molecular Biology Humanities / Social SciencesCHEM 180: World of Chemistry - Environment CHEM 182: World of Chemistry - Technology [formerly CHEM 160] UNIVERSITY OF WATERLOO (I lifted the majority of this list from a UW Pre-vet Club document of courses group members listed as approved by Deanna Lundmark. The only courses I personally got approved were: BIOL 139, BIOL 211, BIOL 361, CHEM 237, GER 383, and REES 460)Biological SciencesBIOL 110: Introductory Zoology BIOL 211: Introduction to Vertebrate Zoology BIOL 303: Introductory Developmental Biology and Embryology BIOL 370: Comparative Animal Physiology 1 BIOL 441: Immunology BIOL 444: Microorganisms and Disease BIOL 447: Environmental Microbiology Cell BiologyBIOL 130: Introductory Cell Biology BIOL 302: Functional Histology BIOL 331: Advanced Cell Biology GeneticsBIOL 239: Genetics [previously BIOL 139] BIOL 308: Principles of Molecular Biology BIOL 434: Human Molecular Genetics BiochemistryCHEM 233: Fundamentals of Biochemistry CHEM 237: Introductory Biochemistry (It's unclear whether OVC requires CHEM 237L as a co-requisite for CHEM 237; it appears it has been approved both ways. Personally, I received notice directly from Deanna Lundmark in the midst of my application that it was unacceptable without CHEM 237L as a co-req, but she said she granted me an exception since I had prior approval multiple times for CHEM 237 alone from the previous contact Penny Scott. Needless to say, I'd be sure to get this approved ahead of time if taking CHEM 237 alone without CHEM 237L.)StatisticsSTAT 202: Introductory Statistics for Scientists BIOL 361: Biostatistics and Experimental Design Humanities / Social SciencesANTH 260: Human Evolution GER 383: Culture in the Third Reich: Racism, Resistance, Legacy PHIL 110B: Introduction to Philosophy PHIL 145: Critical Thinking PHIL 215: Professional and Business Ethics PHIL 226: Biomedical Ethics REES 460: Special Topics: 19th Century Russian Literature SPAN 101: Introduction to Spanish 1 SPAN 102: Introduction to Spanish 2

I did my undergrad at Wilfrid Laurier in Biology & Psychology and I used the following courses;
Biological Sciences- BIO 300 - Environmental Toxicology BIO 308- Animal Behaviour
Genetics -BIO 232 (Molecular Genetics)
Biochemistry -CH 331 (Biochemistry II)
Humanities / Social Sciences -Most classes from psychology, religion and culture, geography, geology etc are acceptable, I used PS 280 (Abnormal Psychology) and PS 363 (Research in Biopyschology)
Statistics -I had taken 4 statistics classes that were required for my major (PS 295,296 and PS 395,396) and submitted all 4 of them for consideration as the stats pre-requisite for the DVM program, however, U of G did NOT accept my stats classes from Laurier because they didnt have a calculus pre-req (although I had taken calculus in 1st year). I appealed the process and was still denied so I attended Guelph for 1 semester in order to take an 'acceptable' stats class and be able to apply (pain in the rear, I know..but it was worth it in the end)
Cell Biology -I took a cell biology class in my final year but I wasent in a full time semester so they wouldn't accept it. I tried submitting BIO 340 (Recombinant DNA Technology) as my cell bio class but it was turned down, as such, I took an 'acceptable' cell bio class when I came to U of G for the 1 semester I attended prior to applying

Hi all!
I went to UWO, here are the courses I had approved as pre-reqs:
Biological Sciences - 1.5 credits (with recommended emphasis on animal biology; one course must be a cell biology)
Biology 3332A - Parasitology Parasitism as a way of life; structures and life histories of selected parasites with emphasis on species affecting humans. The relationships between host and parasite will be stressed in lectures, recognition and identification in the laboratory. Living material will be studied when available.
Biology 3224F/G - Selected Topics (BIOLOGY OF BATS) Selected topics of current interest in Biology. The topics may vary each year. The course is taught on-line and may require on-line attendance in a virtual classroom at set times during the week. Specific topics will be available from the Department prior to registration.
Biology 3316A/B - Advanced Cell Biology The functional organization and physiology of cells with special reference to cellular membranes, energetics, cell motility, cell specializations, and cell-cell interactions. The course is based on the interpretation of experimental observations.
Genetics - 0.5 credits Biology 3466B - Evolutionary Genetics The study of evolution in large and small random and non-random mating populations, showing discrete and quantitative inheritance. The roles and importance of mutation, inbreeding, drift, selection and linkage.

Applicants from McMaster, Here are the prereqs that got me to OVC (also my degree was Bio with a physiology specialization)
Biology: Bio 2F03, 3P03 is what i took. Most bio courses would be accepted I'm fairly sure. Courses I know that will not be accepted are Bio 4J03, 4F06, 4C09, and 4R03. Also be careful with Bio 3ZZ3 it messes up your full time semesters, it most likely won't be counted and also will invalidate your semesters as full time, so watch for that.
Cell Biology: I used Bio 2B03, but I'm fairly sure a friend of mine got Bio 3P03 approved for this prereq
Genetics: Bio 2C03, fairly straight forward.
Stats: Stats 2B03 work for me although it did not have a calc requirement
Biochemistry: There are so many that can be used. I used Biochem 4M03
Soc Sci and Humanities: I used Econ 1B03 and Psych 3F03. Also a lot of possibilities for this category.
Hope This Helps.

Hi everybody,
My name is Adam and I graduated from UWO in 2011 with a BSc. honors spec Animal Physiology/Biology.
My finalized (after much revising) list of approved courses is as follows:
8 prerequisite courses (all taken at UWO):
1.0 Biological sciences: Biology 3435G - Animal Ecology (0.5) - This is an excellent 3rd year biology course taught by Jack Millar. It is straight forward and the evaluation is very fair. Highly recommended for pre-vets at UWO.
AND
Biology 3332A - Parasitology (0.5) - Another fabulous bio credit to take. Taught by Ron Podesta, he also teaches Adv. Cell Bio. The format is set up so that most people finish with high grades. Take home final which he encourages students to do together. Highly recommended.
0.5 Cell Biology: Biology 4338G - Advanced Developmental Biology (0.5) - A 4th year level course that I was very happy to get approved because it is a wonderful course taught by Greg Kelly. Seminar based course, each year is focused on another aspect of developmental biology. A good choice for students that did not succeed in Bio 2382b in second year. Very highly recommended.
0.5 Genetics: Biology 2581B - Genetics (0.5) - Second year genetics, although there are ample opportunities at UWO to redeem yourself and take 3000/4000 level genetics courses in the biology module. Examples include: human genetics, evolutionary genetics, genetic engineering, etc.
0.5 Biochemistry: Biology 2280A - Biochemistry (0.5) - Also has upper year follow up courses. Best example is Clinical biochem.
0.5 Statistics: Biology 2244B - Analysis and Interpretation of Biological Data (0.5) - Standard bio stats. Consider psych stats or business stats as an alternative.
1.0 Humanities/Social Science: Music 2701A - Musical Theatre (0.5) - Fun course if you like music and auditory learning. Professor can be tough but if you have a good ear, is a great course.
AND
Anthropology 1026G - Intro to Biological Anthropology and Archaeology (0.5) - EXCELLENT elective to take, will fit into A or B category for your module and is online. Taught by Dr. Woods. Take home midterm and final, loved the course.
Hope that helps!
My only other advice is to consider taking Phys 2130 or 3120 to help with MCAT prep and with phase one physiology at OVC. Also I wish I had taken an anatomy and a histology - both GREAT ideas if you want to end up at OVC. They can be used as prereqs and will help you a lot in phase one!
Email me if you have questions!
