Hey all, I'm going to be moving to Guelph this summer come the end of April/beginning of May, and am looking for job or volunteer opportunities around the area! I live in Halifax, Nova Scotia right now and am not familiar with the area, but am going to be going to Guelph University next year, and the plan is to apply to the OVC. In case it matters, I'm in my third year of university. Any information or advice would be soo appreciated! Thanks so much! ;D

Well to volunteer or work at the OVC you have to have your rabies vaccination. It is 3 shots over the course of I think 3 months so if you don't already have it, that might be something to consider. There are many volunteer opportunities at the OVC. They do however tend to be quite popular. Here is some info to get you started. www.ovc.uoguelph.ca/future/dvm/volunteer/There are several vet clinics in the area, so might be good googling/looking up in a phonebook/whatever some of those. Sorry, I don't have a local phone book so can' tbe much help narrowing it down. The Donkey Sanctuary is close by and they take volunteers. So does Sunrise Equestrian Centre (though somewhat further). For jobs...try www.thecannon.ca/classifieds/jobs for a start. Just a heads up-I *thought* the residency requirements were that you reside for 1 year in the province WITHOUT attending school? I could definitely be wrong though haven't had to read them in ages. Good luck!

Luckily I've lived in Ontario when I was a child! No problems there, I was born here!

I think tarnia has covered it very well! And it's great you've already done the research with the residency rule. Good for you! From what I remembered, the OVC volunteering fills up fast so definitely try to sign up sooner rather than later. Aside from Donkey Sanctuary & Sunrise, there is also Iron Horse Equine. The lady there is very nice and she may still take volunteers to help her with the horses. There are also local vet clinics around in Guelph. They also fill up REALLY fast so I would try and phone them up sooner rather than later too. Hope that helps!
