I was just wondering if anyone had any input on living in Guelph once accepted into OVC. I currently live in Guelph but may have the opportunity to get a house with my boyfriend outside of Guelph. The commute is doable for finishing my undergrad but I'm not sure if this would be doable for vet school. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Hey there! I too have thought about this myself. I lived in Guelph for my undergrad and I think I'm kind of passed that whole scene...More into somewhere in Toronto to be honest! A vet I know was the same way.. She actually lived GTA and commuted for vet school.. She said it wasn't too bad because she got to live in Toronto your ONLY issue is in 4th year when you have to be oncall--she crashed with a friend for about 3 weeks so you could always get a place for a month when you hit this point Definitely think it's doable... You would miss out on the whole vet school guelph scene I think though...depends if you've already experienced it through your undergrad I guess! Kate

As a current student in the vet program I would suggest not commuting; not because its not possible, there are a number of students who commute, but in reality you will be in Guelph most of the time - between school, meeting up for projects and other class stuff that happens throughout the year you will be thankful to have a 5 min bus ride home as compared to a 45 min drive. Plus who wants to wake up at 430 to avoid rush hour traffic for an 830 exam only to have a full day of class - its hard enough getting through the day when you live in Guelph.

Yea, all the midterms are at 8:30, in second year they are at 8 and pretty much every week.

Thanks for all the input guys. I know commuting won't exactly be the easiest thing, but I am already almost 24 and not even in vet school yet so the living situation is partially thinking about my future too and investing in a house. I will be commuting from Hamilton and not Toronto so the rush hour traffic doesn't seem to be as bad. I work at a vet clinic in Hamilton and throughout the summer I commuted from Guelph and started work at 8 every day and finished at 6. Although I agree living in Guelph would be much easier, it was more a question of whether it was doable. I appreciate any info though as it will all impact my decision so thanks again for your replies!
