Guys! I have a question that I hope current or past OVC students could answer. I recently became a foster mom to a dogs and I have fallen in love with her. I really really want to adopt her but I don’t know if I will be able to take good care of her with OVC’s busy schedule?(I’m starting this fall). If I do end up adopting her, my bf will walk her in the morning, I will walk her after school (we are usually done before 6pm right??), and one more time before bed. She is the perfect fit for our apartment because she is very chill and loves sleeping throughout the day. I know having a pet takes extra work but she has helped me tremendously with my mental health issues and that is important in vet school isn’t it?? If you have any experience with owning a dog when in OVC please share your stories with me. Any comments are greatly appreciated!! Thanks 🧡🧡

Lots of us have dogs in vet school. You won't have class after 5:30 in first year so it's really not much different than having a dog while working a full time job. You will definitely have to make time for her but it's perfectly doable. And yes, staying on top of your mental health is crucial while you are in vet school. The pressures are very high and can be overwhelming at times. For me, having a pet really helps.
