I'd like to know from current students if it would be possible to work a part-time job all day Saturday & Sunday....so, 100% school during the weekdays but pretty much no studying or school work at all on weekends. I'm starting OVC this fall and I have a great part-time job that I don't want to give it up, but it would occupy most of my time on Saturdays & Sundays.
I still haven't been able to find a course schedule anywhere online, but I gather we will be in class more or less 9-5 Mon-Fri?
Thanks.

Hi! More or less you’re in class 8:30-5:30 Monday to Friday. We don’t get our schedules until mid to late August because they have to organize all the phases classtime and labs. I worked as a work-study student through the school during first year which is really flexible hours and a minor time commitment. Some people work weekends but I think the number is very low, and most people quit those jobs before the year was finished. Hope that helps!

Thanks for your reply, jackal. It definitely helps to know it will be a 9-5 type of schedule, and to learn what other students are doing in terms of jobs during the school year. It sounds as though working a weekend job may not be sustainable.

I chose not to work during the school year and am working full-time during the summer now. Having class all day is exhausting and that's not including if you're planning on studying after! You need those evenings and weekends to recharge and squeeze in any studying or cooking/errands you need to do. If anything, I'd say work 10-20h/week max.

Seconding the 10-20hours max. If you really want to work, work-study’s are your best bet. The max hours are usually 15 a week and it’s through the school so they’re very accommodating with your scheduling. You’ll see them posted on experienceguelph closer to the school year.

My job is about 10h/week, but it would require me to drive back to Ottawa every weekend (5 hours each way)….so that's the main problem. I do get a lot of paid vacation weeks, however, so I could probably work on average 3 weekends each month. Maybe I could study en route, listening to lectures, doing memory work, etc. in the car?
