Hi everyone, I took the long road into OVC and did my prerequisites during my undergrad at Queen's (graduated '06 so some course names/codes/content may have changed - definitely double check these!) and then did an extra semester at U of T in 2012. Here are the courses I used (all in full-time semesters, of course):
Queen's U: BIOL 102 - Intro Biology of Cells (for 0.5 Cell Biology credit) BIOL 525 - Animal Communication (0.5 Biological Sciences credit) BIOL 205 - Mendelian and Molecular Genetics (0.5 Genetics credit) BIOL 234 - Comparative Biochemistry (0.5 Biochemistry credit) PSYC 100 - Principles of Psychology (full-year course, used as 1.0 Humanities credits)
U of T: EEB 466 - Biodiversity: Museum Study (0.5 Biological Sciences credit) STA 220 - Practice of Statistics I (0.5 Statistics credit)
Please note, OVC would NOT accept: Queen's U: BIOL 243 - Data Management and Analysis (NOT acceptable for statistics requirement) ***EDIT: Queen's has recently changed this course - the new version of the course CAN be used as a stats requirement - see the post below *** U of T: BCH 311 - Biochemistry II (NOT acceptable as biochemistry requirement)

I believe Queen's has changed BIOL 243 so that it can be used for the OVC stats requirement. It's now called "Introduction to Statistics". And from this link www.queensu.ca/biology/undergrad/advising/VetSchoolInfo.html: "Please note that BIOL 243 is acceptable at Guelph Vet School but must be taken with a full course load."

Hello All,
Is there any recommendation for students who are diagnosed with a learning disability and/or condition where they cannot take a full-course load. Is there a way to appeal or process the necessary documentation, or acceptable paperwork that provides reasonable evidence for this?

I would suggest writing an appeal letter to the admissions office (I had to do so for a different reason and was accepted). However it may be difficult to get approved because once you enter the vet program you will have to take 6 or 7 courses at one time.

Alright then,
Thank you very much for the response. So you were not in a full course-load for the prerequisites, nor your last two semesters, then? Since you are at the DVM program, how would you describe the course load now, as in managing your study habits and your overall approach to a demanding amount of classes?
Speaking 6 or 7 courses per semester, i was told by the recruiting advisor (i think it is Mrs. Lowenger) that first year in DVM is 8 courses per semester, with some days in the week going from 8 AM- 4 OR 5 PM (12-1 PM is a lunch break).
I look forward to hearing from you.

I was appealing a different rule that I was unable to follow because of the degree I was completing - so I'm not sure I'm the right person to answer your workload question. I was just suggesting that it is probably your best option. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful...

Okay then, well i appreciate hearing back from you. I wish you the best in the DVM program, i hope that you enjoy it (and hopefully i end up in it as well!).

Hi all! I completed my undergraduate degree at Queen's University in 2014. These are the courses I used as my prerequisites:
Humanities/Social Sciences: GRMN 101 and 102 (Beginner's German I and II)
Statistics: STAT 263 (Introduction to Statistics)
Biological Science: BIOL 202 (Diversity of Life II) BCHM 432 (Molecular Basis of Cellular Function) *both of these were accepted
Biochemistry: BCHM 410 (Protein Structure and Function)
Cell Biology: BIOL 341 (Plant Physiology)
Genetics: BIOL 205 (Mendelian and Molecular Genetics) BCHM 411 (Advanced Molecular Biology) * both of these were accepted
NB: I had several other courses that could have been used for some of these categories, however I took these courses as a 50% course load during summer months while working full time. Since they were not taken with a full course load, they could not be used as prerequisites. Be careful and plan ahead!
