Hello! I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations of a course they have taken that counts to OVC as a social science or humanities credit. I'm a transfer student and I'm still missing an acceptable credit for this portion of the application (long story of muddled up transfer credits). Also, has anyone taken FRHD (Human development) 1010 in DE? This is a course I was considering taking. Thanks!

The options for the social science or humanities credits are vast, as can be seen from UofG's list of their approved set of prerequisites for the DVM program for 2013: www.ovc.uoguelph.ca/recruitment/en/applyingtodvm/resources/acceptablecourses2013.pdfI'd simply recommend you take courses that will be interesting to you, as this is probably the easiest way towards a high grade (e.g., some of the qualifying courses I took at other universities were language courses, general interest chemistry courses, and a Russian literature course. I found these courses interesting, and as a result it seemed relatively easy to get high grades in them, but I know some people would have absolutely dreaded such courses). Just out of interest regarding the courses you completed at your previous institution: is this simply a case of the program/faculty you transferred into at UofG not accepting these courses as transfer credits? If so, have you checked with the admissions office as to whether you could still use them as part of a DVM application as courses completed at an external/previous university? (i.e., if individually assessed and approved, courses from an external/previous university may still be acceptable for a DVM application, even if the specific faculty you transferred into here at UofG didn't accept them. For example, my application had courses (individually approved by UofG admissions) from two universities, even though the courses from my first university were never transferred as credits to my later university.)

Thank you dreizehn! I think that is part of the problem, there are SO many to choose from! I will definitely focus on something that interests me, I'm considering a Spanish because I have always wanted to learn the basics of another language. I did my first two years at UBC vancouver and unfortunately had a little incident during my first year second semester exams with a blood clot that made me defer my exams and withdraw from a course (making that semester not full time). My deferred exams in the summer didn't submit my grades in time for registration for the next year (it was an absolute mess) and I ended up in not full time semesters all of second year (at UBC you pick the whole year at once). So all in all I only have 1 full time semester from UBC and there is not a single SS/humanities in it! Again thank you so much for the response, its so much appreciated to be able to ask questions and receive such thorough and detailed responses.
