Hello!
I currently have a minor in classical languages which I declared way back in first year. I wanted to know if I am going to be frowned upon for not taking a full course load of science courses but rather 3/5 in each of my semesters that will be calculated for my average.
I am debating between finishing up my minor and taking my two language courses or having a full science course load in order to show OVC that I am indeed a science student. It's not that I am avoiding science courses, it's just that I speak many languages and have many interests.
Please let me know!
Thanks

There is no judgement made based on your chosen major(s), minor(s), home faculty, not taking only science courses each semester, etc.; per the OVC admissions web site ( www.ovc.uoguelph.ca/recruitment/en/applyingtodvm/Academicrequirements.asp), " you can study at any accredited university and take any major that interests you..." (emphasis mine). So long as you meet all the academic requirements, and ensure the semesters and courses you are submitting meet all their respective regulations, as outlined on the page linked to above, then you'll be just fine. The admissions process is designed to be highly objective, so when it comes to your grades for your last two semesters and prerequisites, it really does just come down to the numbers (so long as all the other regulations are followed so the semesters and courses themselves are acceptable). So long as you meet the admission requirements, you don't need to do anything beyond that to "... show OVC that [you are] indeed a science student". Indeed, you will have already shown your dedication through completing all of the many admission requirements. Thus, if your top interest is wanting to take a couple language courses to finish your minor, and it won't negatively impact your ability to complete the admission requirements or meet semester/course regulations, then you're free to do so, and will NOT be "... frowned upon..." for it. As always, if you have any questions or concerns regarding the acceptability of courses or semesters you are planning to submit, Deanna Lundmark is the official contact for approvals.
