Hey guys! I was wondering if anyone knew if we're able to take courses during the summer and have it count for our pre-reqs? My problem is that I don't have room to take my humanities classes but I can take the whole requirement in one Summer... but is that allowed? I just remembered to ask you guys and haven't re-read the info from the OVC site specific to this but thought that I hadn't really understood it... Sorry for the scatter brain post... it's that kind of week!

To have a course count as a pre req the semester it's in has to fit ovc requirements So as long as you have a full time semester with no more then 2 DE courses and if your 3rd year or higher make sure you follow the 60/40 split rule. As long as you meet those requirements I'm sure it'll be fine but is still email Ms.Lundmark.

I'm thinking that taking pre-reqs in the summer is not allowed because it doesn't meet Guelph's requirements, like guest said. Only courses taken during full semesters (i.e. you had 5 courses at the time) can be used as pre-reqs.
The intention of having those rules in place are for them to see that you can do well in pre-requisite courses while maintaining a full course load. Without them, they would accept pre-reqs from those who may have only taken a single biochem/bio/genetics/stats/etc. course in the summer and did not have to balance a full academic work load. They want to see that you can get good marks while managing vet school's busy curriculum.
But again, maybe your circumstances could allow for you to take courses in the summer and have them count. I mean, not being able to fit in humanities during your regular school year would definitely make it hard to get your humanities credit. You'll have to check with Deanna Lundmark and work something out with her if that's the case.

Thanks guys! Unfortunately my school doesn't seem to offer many one semester courses for the humanities and that's the only way I'd be able to do it... Sounds like I'll have to figures something out. Speaking of Deanna, anyone have her contact info off hand?

Guest 1221212 is correct: so long as you could arrange to have the summer semester and its courses meet all the regulations as outlined on the admissions web site for academic requirements, it doesn't matter what semester courses are taken in (i.e., fall, winter, or summer). The only reason most people don't take courses in the summer, and what I think archeopteryx is getting at, is that at many schools is would be quite difficult to get enough courses of a sufficient level and type to fulfill all of the admission regulations. However, so long as you can manage this, it would be fine. As always though, be sure to contact Deanna Lundmark to get your individual courses and semesters as a whole approved ahead of time to avoid potential issues in the future, as individual circumstances can vary. Ms. Lundmark's contact information is all available on the admissions web site, with a few pieces a bit spread out, so I've gathered it all together for you below: Deanna Lundmark Admission Services UC L3 University of Guelph Guelph, ON N1G 2W1

You guys are a plethora of information! I kind of have a new question which in a round about way will allow me to complete my humanities.... In first year I took two semesters with 4 courses (where 5 would be a full semester) in second year which I am currently in, I'm taking two full semesters. Now my GOAL is to apply next Fall BUT the rule states you must: "Complete at least two years (4 semesters) of full-time studies in university. Full-time is a minimum five one-semester courses,..." But then I saw it said that the courses you are currently using when you apply are applicable sooooooo does that mean I can use both second year full time semesters and my two full year third year semesters to constitute my full 4 semesters? (Sorry that's a mouth full...) The reason I did 4 courses in my first year has to do with suffering from a medical condition (but I wasn't diagnosed until the last month of my first year of Uni) so I wasn't able to cope with a full time load until I was receiving treatment... hence my second year. Anyone have any idea if I'm screwed? If I can it would be super helpful to not have to do 4 years of Undergrad simply for monetary purposes. Yea.... I'm poor
