Hi there,
I have been wondering whether or not the admission board is able to see the 8 pre-req. courses that you chose to make up the average for your prereq's? Or, is this information only available to them if they look into it further/ maybe it is not available at all? I can see it wasting valuable time if they looked at your 8 courses, rather than just comparing sheer averages. However, there might be certain circumstances where the courses used to make up the 8 might be useful, and I am just wondering if that ever happens? Thank you very much for your time.

I have been wondering whether or not the admission board is able to see the 8 pre-req. courses that you chose to make up the average for your prereq's? Simple Answer:No, just submit whichever acceptable course has the highest grade, tl;dr Version:So long as the prerequisite courses are approved/acceptable (i.e., U of G students have a document of pre-approved, acceptable courses; external students are supposed to get their courses approved ahead of time), it really does just come down to the grades received, and nothing more. As such, ALWAYS submit whichever acceptable course has the highest grade, because all they're going to take from it are the grades for calculating your initial admission score and ranking. Some applicants seem to think they should submit what they feel are "more impressive" or "harder" courses, but again, for the above reasons, this is simply the wrong approach. Admissions just parses out the grades alone, so whatever course it came from is irrelevant. Honestly, the best approach for DVM admission purposes in isolation is to just figure out in which acceptable courses you can get the highest grades, and then use them for the application. As mentioned above, a list is made available to UofG students of courses pre-approved as acceptable for use as DVM prerequisites, which is accessible via the admission's web site academic requirements page. The direct link to the file for the 2014 entry application cycle is: www.ovc.uoguelph.ca/recruitment/en/applyingtodvm/resources/acceptablecourses2014.pdf. Now: it's 3AM, and I'm pretty sure I've repeated myself at least twice up above there, so I'm going to leave it at that If you have a more specific concern or question about this, or want some more follow up, feel free to ask.
