Unfortunately, I failed a course in my last semester. This is not in my semester which I will use towards my GPA placement for my OVC application (thank goodness) but I did take a course that I need to use for my prerequisites. I took a full course load but I failed one course (Organic chem... surprise). Can I still use this other course (statistics) for my OVC application?! I REALLY need to use it so I'm hopeful this doesn't ruin my chances. Thanks in advance guys. Hope your semester goes better than my last one!

The grades portion of the admission average is calculated using your last 2 acceptable full-time semesters, and your 8 prerequisite courses taken during acceptable full-time semesters. If you followed all of the rules for an acceptable semester outlined on the OVC admissions website, then yes I believe you would be able to use courses from that semester for your 8 prerequisites (but I would check with D. Lundmark to be sure). Keep in mind that you cannot choose the 2 full-time semesters for the admission average - they use your 2 most recent ones. So if it was an acceptable one then unfortunately the whole semester will count for your average.

Wonderful! Fortunately for me, it wasn't an admission average semester! I will double check with Ms. Lundmark just to be sure. Thanks so much, It's stressful enough that I failed a course so hopefully that's the the only extent of the damage.

I emailed her and she got back o me same day and this is the answer I got:
Whether a course is passed or failed doesn't affect the credit total attempted for the semester. As long as the semester meets OVC rules, you can use one of the passed courses as a prerequisite. Please know that if you were to submit an unacceptable course on your BIF, we would contact you and ask for an acceptable substitution. Only if there is no substitution possible would the application then be given no further consideration.

Thanks so much for emailing her- for some reason I couldn't find an email address... Sounds like we're not screwed after all

If we fail a course are we allowed to retake the course and use it towards your 8 prerequisites? And are we allowed to use more than 1 course from that semester?

Hi 144. The answer to both is yes as long as the credit weight of the semester was full time by our standards and you followed all the rules.
