PLEASE NOTE: The MCAT is no longer required for applicants to the DVM program, beginning with applications for F16 entry.

Hi Ms. Lowenger,
Great news! Is there any word on how the admission process will now work with the mcat gone? Will the grades be a higher percentage of the admission selection or will there be new requirements for applicants

This is good and bad news haha. I wonder if marks will become 50/50 pre-req and semester averages? Guess we will find out! (:

This must have been a really big decision. The change will help those who did poorly on the MCAT (or those who haven't taken it yet), but will also set back those who relied on a standardized test to boost their undergraduate marks. Applications might also spike from now on. Thoughts?

I can understand why they removed it ( there would be 3 different MCATs being used) but I can also see how it will be unfair. There is so much variation between the difficulty of each university and I always felt the MCAT help normalize the differences you see in marks between applicants at different universities. For example, I have seen some people on the thread post their marks as being 90s but a 12-18 MCAT range. That MCAT brought down the score a considerable amount.
I think the biggest disadvantage will be felt by students who go to universities that mark hard ie U of T, McGill as the MCAT helped boost marks.
I also feel the applicant pool will increase because MCAT will no longer be a deter people from applying.

guest05, while you are right in some aspects i feel it is ultimately subjective to say some universities are harder than others. Furthermore, animal experience is still required to apply as well. Perhaps they will add a minimum number of hours needed

It would be subjective but I have studied at two unis and could see a significant difference. Regardless, you do still need two vet references which does require a big time commitment, maybe that will prevent the applicant pool from increasing too much. It will be interesting to see what happens!
