Hi everyone, I am wondering if anyone has appealed an application attempt and what their experience was and how they went about it. I unfortunately didn't get admitted this year on my third application. However my first attempt I withdrew myself before submitting the bif or references since I had an issue meeting the min 2 vet references requirements. At the time the counted it but said I could appeal it and regret my decision for not doing so (I really thought I would be in by now).
I'm just looking for some advice, if anyone thinks this is something worth looking into and how to go about it.
Thank you and congrats to the class of 2019!

Hi, I have no experience with appealing but thought I would give some input! I would say it can't hurt to try, or at least contact someone to get more information. I am guessing (big guess though so don't take my word as fact) that if they said you could appeal it previously then your biggest hurdle would be that a couple years have passed since the attempt. You still have one more application though, so I would say at least try to appeal it and if it doesn't work out you still have next year to apply again!

Just about appeals in general: From what I gather, approval of an appeal requires a bit of luck... kind of like applying with the grad pool, there is nothing written about what they are looking for.
IMO, it is best to make an appointment to talk to Dr. Conlon about it. I know that's not the procedure that it written online, but the only person I know who ever got an appeal approved drove in and spoke with him in person after her appeal sat in Deanna Lundmark's inbox for almost 3 months *unread* (she knew this because she spoke with Deanna who denied ever receiving it, but she had a printed copy with her and watched Deanna pull it up on her computer). Rumour has it, Dr. Conlon is the one who approves them (although a full committee may in fact exist).
Maybe the paperwork gets passed along more successfully now, but I would follow up, and follow up again, just to be sure.
About your appeal: Not having the references on time may not be a good enough reason to appeal. But, there may be more to your story, so try to clearly explain why you couldn't meet the deadline.

Guest 1620 - the appeals process is not subject to 'luck', success is based on adequate support in the form of documentation, and the rules related to the appeal. There are many appeals approved each year. Dr. Conlon should not be approached if you feel your appeal is not being handled quickly enough. The appeals go to the OVC Admissions Committee and they meet monthly. But they will only discuss an appeal if all the documentation is present. We often request additional information and the applicant must provide them.
To call out Deanna in this forum is unfair and appears to be based on only one person's experience. Human beings make mistakes but I can tell you that her track record is excellent.
Not meeting deadlines is not usually grounds for an appeal. You have months in which to prepare your application. But there may be situations beyond your control and we will consider them.
Should you have questions about the appeal process feel free to contact me directly.

Many things. Taking part time courses when they have to work, during illness or injury, switching majors due to a career change, etc.
