I'm looking for a good place to start reading up on animal ethics, does anyone know a good starter book or journal? Perhaps something used at uni?

Animal Welfare by Hughes and Appleby is a good place to start.

I have taken a couple of welfare courses, I'll try and look up any texts I have when I get back to Toronto at the end of this week.
In the meantime, a lot of behavioural journals carry welfare/ethical articles such as the Journal of Animal Behaviour. Similarly vet journals such as JAVMA.

Hi Andrew, I just thought I'd give you the name of a book I bought in order to prepare for my DVM interview, and I found it helped me out A LOT!!! It is a great resource as it has a compilation of over 100 different ethical scenarios and the author then goes through them and gives you answers and the reasoning behind the answers provided. It was wonderful prep for the MMI and it has also helped me quite a bit during phase 1. The name of the book is - An Introduction to Veterinary Medical Ethics by B. Rollin. here is a link: www.amazon.com/Introduction-Veterinary-Medical-Ethics-Theory/dp/0813803993Hopefully this helps!!!

Thanks Ladybird, that is a good recommendation. That is a little painful to the budget, but if you say it is as good as that, how can I refuse.
