I am wondering if I should apply to vet tech school, then go to school for my undergrad it semes like its a longer way of becoming a vet
but i find it difficult to gain experience volunteering with clinics alot of them don't want volunteers and I am not sure if fostering for local cat rescues, and toronto widlife and animal services will be enough to get accepted to vet school.
vet tech school in my province is about 2 to 3 years, plus i have to complete academic upgrading to apply.
or I do academic upgrading for 2 years, then undergrad, volunteer to what is available to me animal services, humane societies and fostering, then hope that will be enough experience to get into Ross U and not even apply to another school
Guelph is my second choice and I am not sure if they will understand how limited my animal in a veterinarian setting can be.
26 years old trying not being too old to become a vet

Hi camcam,
From what I know, a college vet tech education is not transferable to a university education. What I mean is, if you become a vet tech and then apply to undergrad, you will be in the same standing as someone who applied into undergrad right out of high school. So, if you took vet tech (2-3yrs) and then undergrad (3-4 years) and then vet school for 4 years, it would be potentially 11years before becoming a vet.
Since you have to do academic upgrading anyways, I would recommend upgrading for undergrad- think of it this way, take your undergrad (3-4yrs) and apply into vet school, (4yrs) and if you weren't to get into vet school after a couple years of applying you can apply into a 2yr vet tech program... and you would be done just as soon as if you'd continued with the vet program. (8 years total?) Rather than taking tech school before even trying for undergrad & vet school (which would mean 11 years before you could be a vet)
Which province are you from?

Thanks,
Right now I am finishing upgrading for college animal care program (1 year) I know it won't help with my vet school application, but the experience I get from it will. Since I have a big interest in web design I want to take the web design course at a private college which is 8 months.
being a certified web designer will give me more skills to market while I Am studing in my undergrad.
