Hi, I have a few questions about the basic rules/procedure for MMIs at OVC.
1. Are you aloud to take notes and bring them into the room?
2. Are you allowed to bring your water bottle into the room?
3. Is there a clock in the room? If not, can you look at your watch or would this be frowned upon?
4. Are you to present your response while standing, or will you be sitting at a table?
5. Can you take more than two minutes before entering the room?
6. If you finish early should you indicate you are done, say thank you and leave, or sit/stand in silence?
7. Can you talk to the interviewers (i.e. treat the situation like a conversation) or is it strictly a monologue?
Grateful if anyone with past experience can answer my questions - I know they are very basic but I want to replicate the MMI scenario as closely as possible while practicing at home, so knowing these little details is important to me.
Thanks!

Hi catseye! I haven't done the real interview, but I did the mock MMI and I've found some information online that might help! 1. When we did the mock, we were allowed to take notes and bring them in and refer to them during the interview. I believe in the real MMI we will be provided pencil and paper (if we need it) and bring it in with us. We will need to discard the paper before moving on to the next station. 2. Yes, water bottles are allowed! 3. The interviews are held in McKinnon, and if I remember correctly, the clocks are directly behind us so you can't really see them during the interview. I think wristhingyches are allowed, but setting a timer that will beep during the interview are not allowed. 4. During our mock MMIs we sat at a table, with you on side and the interviewer on the other! 5. Yes you can! Some of the vet students during the mock MMI debrief said they took an extra few seconds to collect their thoughts before going in. I don't think taking extra minutes is a good idea, but they said 20-30 seconds can be really helpful for calming down and solidifying how you approach the question. 6. If you're done early, you should indicate you are done and ask if they have any questions for you. If not, you may leave or you may stay for the rest of the time remaining. Some vet students said they left, others said they stayed just in case another point came into mind (but be prepared to embrace the (potentially) awkward silence). If you leave you are not allowed to re-enter the room. 7. You will be doing the vast majority of the speaking at the stations and the interviewers are supposed to remain neutral and will not directly respond to your answers. Of course, you still should treat it like a "regular" interview and remain confident and enthusiastic, even if your interviewers look very expressionless! Hope this helps and good luck!!

Just adding to sunny's answer,
I took 3-3.5 min outside on every station (except for BIF) since I personally needed more time to get think of and organize all my points. It was definitely scary seeing how much time was passing as I was outside but once I entered the room and started talking, it was very calming knowing that I had all my thoughts collected. If I only took 2 min, I probably would've been very frazzled and all over the place with my answer. But everyone comes up with their answers at a different pace, so it's important to time yourself when practising to estimate how much time you usually take!

Would you happen to have any examples of questions that are vet-related (situational or ethical)? or resources for those types of questions? I'm having a hard time finding any as the majority are heavily human medicine-based. thanks in advance!

I am leaving Guelph very soon after my interview, and will have already checked out of my accommodation. Is there a location where I would be able to store my bags in the meantime? Thanks in advance

The dates will be announced in January. Timing is in shifts at 8AM, 10AM, 12PM, 2PM or 4PM
There is a strict confidentiality policy around the scenarios so there should not be anyone giving that information out.

Hello! I know the question has been asked already in regards to mock MMIs. Would there be any way to get a rough estimate of the mock MMIs dates ? I have a relative's wedding to attend around the same time as the mock MMIs took place last year but would really appreciate a tentative date (or even the dates being considered) as I must book flights and in an ideal world would attend both! I realize above it was mentioned they would be released in January, was just wondering if the release date would be soon.. thank you in advance and sorry for the bother

TT24, the FVC at Guelph held a meeting this week during which they listed the mock MMI dates and also had students give some MMI tips and advice. I did not attend this meeting but you can find the recording on Facebook.
If my notes are correct (please verify yourself!), the mock MMI dates will be held on Feb 3rd, 6th, and 11th with a weekend date(s) yet to be determined. Registration is on the morning of Jan 22nd and it will be a pre-paid event.

The mock MMI dates are 3rd, 6th, and 11th of February. There will be another weekend date, potentially the 29th but this has not been confirmed yet.
