Does anyone know if we will be reading the scenarios out in the hall (as we did with the MMI’s) or will we be reading it in the room? I’ve heard some conflicting information.
Thanks!

Outside the room. 2 mins to read the scenario outside then you can enter the room and have 8 minutes.

Hi, Is there a source/validator for this information? Doesn’t this change things a lot? Would we be shaking hands before or after we begin taking notes? Isn’t it more distracting if the interviewers are present while you take notes/read the scenario? Sorry for all the questions, but this changes a lot with regards to the way I’ll be practicing.

Yes I agree with the above, this will really change how I practice and prepare, is there a way to verify this? And aren’t we not allowed to talk until the 2 minutes are up? So won’t that be weird if we don’t say hello and shake hands when we first walk in?

I've done the real interviews last year and the year before. I've done the mock ones 2 or 3 times. We've always read it outside the room...

I'm wondering the same thing as everyone above. Could someone please verify this?

Maybe we can post on the Facebook applying to OVC page? See if Elizabeth Lowenger can verify?

So is it that we have to read the scenario IN the room? Because I usually take a second to collect my thoughts before entering to make my good first impression.

Elizabeth responded on the Facebook group that there will be an orientation at the beginning of each interview session that will answer all questions regarding placement of scenarios, when we should address the interviewers etc. It doesn't seem like we will be able to have a firm answer one way or another until the interview day, but that is something that will be addressed before starting your interview.

Did anyone have their interview yet? Was the reading time inside or outside the hall?

Hey guys, did my MMIs today and I can confirm that you read the scenario in the room. It works like this: - To start, go inside the room at the bell and sit at a desk facing the chalkboard to read the question. It doesn't feel awkward or anything since you aren't even looking at them and they're busy marking the person before you. Just focus on yourself and the question in front of you. - After 2 minutes the bell will ring again and you can get up (or take more time), turn around, and introduce yourself to the interviewers and begin your answer at a different desk and seat. - The only exception is the BIF room in which you wait outside for the 2 minutes as there's no pre-determined question to read/consider. - Once things get rolling you just go from room to room and it's over before you know it.
Hopes this helps! I know it's easy for me to say now that it's over, but it's not so bad. I have a lot of issues around social anxiety and I still felt as though they are set up in a way that made it reasonable for me to do my best. Don't let this change throw you off if you've done the mock MMIs or anything. I'm not sure about this as I didn't do it or ask, but I would imagine if you needed it, you could always stand in the hall for a minute to compose yourself if needed anyway. Fingers crossed for everybody!

As mentioned above we do an orientation before the interviews and explain the set up and the rationale for why it is done.

how does everyone think they did? I personally think I absolutely bombed it Hey upset, I know how you might be feeling right about now. I haven't personally done MMIs and this is my first time but I've had friends that did it. You're always going to feel like you could've said more, like you could've said something differently, and that maybe something you said was off the rail and you're going to wonder what you were thinking. In reality, the time in between interviews and admissions decisions is a big fat mind game. Try to forget about it for now and be excited because summer has finally begun for you! I know it's easy to fall into that trap. The truth is, we are always going to be harder on ourselves. The interviewers don't have a list of things they're expecting you to say, they know you're nervous, just be hopeful

I've been around this block a few times (I haven't had my interview yet this year, but it is my third time doing the MMIs). I don't think you EVER really know how well you did coming out of it. I never did. The first two times I felt O.K. about it all but I did not do well. Just have trust in yourself. If not, you can always apply again next year (assuming this isn't your fourth time around...) and take the year to really develop professionally. That's what I've been doing!! No shame in that:)

So I also feel I did poorly...I had very good answers for everything when I practiced but felt I did not when I was doing the actual interview today...

So I also feel I did poorly...I had very good answers for everything when I practiced but felt I did not when I was doing the actual interview today... I’m sure you’re underestimating yourself! It’s common to think you did worse than you actually did. We’re all our own worst critic! Stay positive!
