Refused again. My interview score was marginally better but still feels awful to be refused twice...

Refused again. My interview score was marginally better but still feels awful to be refused twice... Please don't lose hope. This second interview has only given you more experience to do even better next year! Whether that be improving your grades for next year or practicing more for the interview, you have an advantage that others next year may not have. I truly wish you all the best and hope you get in next year

Refused again. My interview score was marginally better but still feels awful to be refused twice... I was in almost exactly the same boat as you (I actually did marginally worse the second interview). Apply again, get more experience, do many many practice MMIs. If this is your dream you can make it a reality

Did anybody have a high 84 or 85 overall average that they were admitted with? I'm not sure what the minimum was this year.

I was basically 85 on the dot and not admitted so it's probably a little higher than that i assume.

I’m confused. Both my friends got in this year, however I was unsuccesful. What I’m confused about is that my average, after factoring in the interview score and my average was in between their scores. So I was wondering if this was a mistake?

Do they not inform you if there is a red flag during the interview? That is the only explanation I can think of for that

I scraped by to get in the 2023 class with an 85.6% cumulative score if that helps anyone figure out where they were. I’m so sorry Onthedot. We were so close to each other. I hope that next year treats you better.

This was my third application (and third time interviewing) and I was finally admitted! Don't give up, if this is your dream, focus on the weaknesses of your application and make sure you try again!

Hi Xena. My interview score was 74.861%. I’m equal parts disappointed and not surprised by that, but it got me in so who am I to complain?
I can save some time for anyone who is curious about the math, my marks component was 91.45% (between my two semesters and top 8 marks). Honestly, my grades saved me.

Do they not inform you if there is a red flag during the interview? That is the only explanation I can think of for that Red flags are very rare from what I've heard. And they need to be very obvious or extreme. I dont think I've said anything that could be considered a red flag. I felt better knowing that I was close to the cut off, but now seeing others with get in with a lower cumulative score than mine, its just harder to accept this fact.

Hi tchan, I’m really sorry that you’re experiencing this. You sound like a strong candidate. If you don’t think it was a red flag in the interview, maybe consider something in your BIF that came up. Do you trust that your references were confident about recommending you? That would be the only thing I could think of aside from “red flag” concerns. I hope you can figure this out.

Perhaps the semesters you submitted forward we’re not full-time semesters or something may have been wrong with them (I.e. course overlap, not following 60:40 rule)... in that case they would take the next full-time semester available which may have had lower grades than the ones you calculated for the other semesters? Hope this provides any solace, I’m sorry you have to go through this :/

I got a 74.7 on my interviews and with grades of 90.25 my cumulative average came to an 84.8... I feel like I was literally right near the cutoff I improved my interview only a little bit from last year so I don't know where I went wrong, I felt so much better than last year

Hey everyone, I was admitted and I'm extremely happy about that. But that being said, I would like to share a couple words with those who were not admitted this year and for those who are looking to apply next year. I was anticipating rejection, and not only that, I was expecting it. I am a below average candidate in terms of grades and I am not a stellar speaker so I thought there would be no way I could get in. I did my interview, I was myself, I tried to appear genuine, but still, I felt as though it was impossible for me to do enough. I know its cliche, but if I could do it you can too. Please don't get discouraged. I did well on my interview not by bringing up every stakeholder, not by reciting the vet oath or the AVMA position statements, but by just keeping it simple and by staying true to myself. I'll be happy to help anyone with interviews next year if needed. For those who were unlucky this year, just know that you would make one hell of a veterinarian and you WILL make one hell of a veterinarian one day. I know how it feels to have your confidence depleted because I have felt that way throughout this entire admissions process but don't lose hope. One day you will do it! Please message me if you need to talk to anyone.

This was my fourth time applying, and I was FINALLY accepted... talk about leaving things to the last minute! It was likely a combination of equal parts resilience and stupidity that drove me to keep trying after every rejection, but it eventually panned out for me.
So if anyone can relate to those who received the dreaded “refused admission”, believe me, I empathize for the sour feeling in your gut. My advice? Keep personal growth as your mindset. You’ll get there. Prioritize your mental health, and remember to reward yourself for the little victories along the way. Treat yourself like you’d treat a friend who received the same news. Good luck to you all. You’re amazing people.
