Hi everyone! I've been trying to find places to volunteer to get more animal experience. So far, I only have experience working at small animal clinics and have only worked with cats and dogs. I know it's difficult to find positions at the moment due to COVID, but I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on where to look or who to ask? I'm particularly interested in getting farm animal experience. Any ideas?

i cold called a bunch of barns and asked to volunteer. It doesn't take much (any) expertise to muck stalls, stack hay etc and they usually ease you into the horse handling (i.e starting with just leading horses to pasture, then to grooming, giving meds, etc). I've only volunteered at 2 but we got along pretty well and they offered paid jobs after the first month or so. great way to find barns is to just google "riding lessons near me".

You can also probably find volunteer position with wildlife centres if you are interested in wildlife. Right now COVID is making new volunteer positions more difficult but you can try to ask anyway

Hey there, I manage a horse boarding facility in King Ontario. I have had a few vet student volunteers over the years and have had great experiences every time. I am interested in posting the volunteer availability we offer in the vet student community but am not sure how to do that. the last vet student volunteer suggested I post here.

Hi Kansas We don't post volunteer opportunities on our website since we don't have the resources to verify if the opportunities offer a real learning experience for our student veterinarians. You can join www.facebook.com/groups/786589051429181 and post there.
