Yes, completely agreed. The reality is universities grade differently and have different admission standards... Taking the raw percentage like this and comparing students across universities and programs doesn't make sense. Plus all the universities that only use letter grades and that OVC takes the midpoint for... (let's be real, this is always an advantage! A 95% requires a disproportionately larger amount of effort than a 90% in schools with percentage grades). A student at Guelph with only A+s may have a low 90s average, but the same grades at York would count as 95%! If OVC really wants to base its ranking so strongly on academic averages, it should create a mandatory, standardized pre-vet stream, so that everyone can be ranked on the same courses and marking schemes. Otherwise they need to find a way to improve how they measure academic performance. Wow! I never knew about this. This does seem very unfair. Right!? If they want to do that, they should calculate averages the same way for everyone and use exclusively letter grades. I know a lot of people say UoG is best if you want to get into OVC, but the truth is with the huge focus on academics, you can easily get a 95% average with much less effort at YorkU.

This may seem like a long shot but will the admission statistics be out for those interviewed only? I’m curious to see where I stand in the top 200.

I don't think statistics are released until a few months after admissions are decided... What average did you apply with if you don't mind saying? The posts here are kind of conflicting since someone got an interview with a 90.3, whereas others didn't with higher averages... But if we're assuming averages are 1-2% higher than last year, a 93-94 should put you in the top 100, and >95 should put you in the top 50.

I got an invite with a 91.6-7. But someone with 91.5 and 93.3 got rejected. Not sure what is happening

Not sure what is happening I think there are always a few cases where applicants are rejected despite a qualifying average for whatever reason (i.e., the median of applicants and the minimum interviewed are always slightly different), but surprised to see two already in such a small sample size, I didn't think it was very common.

Just remember everyone it is not only the grades that are looked at before qualifying for an interview, so there may have been red flags in your references, essays, or rest of your BIF.

I always wonder how this would happen though... You would expect a referee to just decline rather than write a bad letter... And I can't imagine anyone getting this far and writing a terrible essay. These red flags seem like such a black box.

We don't know what their criteria is for a good reference letter or good essay though, something that may seem acceptable to us may not be the same for those reviewing the application.

Yeah no I don't think it will hit 95 because this is based on the assumption that the accepted average bumps up by 2% or more which might not even be the case. There's no need to stress out future and current applicants when we don't know what's going to happen.

Got rejected with an 89.1. Seems like that was not even close this year.

Rejected from OVC again this year. Super crushed. I know my extracurriculars are so great too but I feel like they don’t even look at them all they care about are grades. My issue is that does 0.5% difference between two averages make such a huge difference in who would or would not make a good vet? I know all of us on here are intelligent so why are they even using grades, I feel that looking at our experiences is a better marker for how dedicated we are to this profession.
