I am going to echo my colleagues - using consultants DOES NOT make you less worthy…
I used Futurememd back when it was called that and got in. I’m doing well in vet school and am definitely not falling behind. Comments like above contribute to the imposter syndrome that many vet student feel and are not okay

I completely agree with the above! Using resources does not make you less worthy! However, there are also SO MANY FREE or LOW COST resources available if you can't afford expensive sessions with companies. And I personally believe the free resources work SO MUCH BETTER!
1) Toastmasters! They have clubs worldwide and there might be clubs on campus too (University of Guelph has 2 clubs on campus)!! They are a public-speaking organization and are a safe space to practice your public speaking skills! You can attend several meetings as a guest for FREE!! And then, if you'd like to become a member, it's super affordable (I think around 50 bucks for the year). You will be assigned a mentor who will spend one on one time with you. You will have the opportunity to practice speeches and impromptu speaking (SUPER helpful for interviews), and so much more! I completely recommend. My time spent with Toastmasters (around 2 years) has really payed off, not only to land jobs and to get into vet school, but also IN vet school with client communication, etc. Keep in mind: you'll only get out of it as much as you put into it. So really step out of your comfort zone and PARTICIPATE!
2) Campus counselors/advisors: I'm sure every campus has them, you just need to look it up! University of Guelph has amazing advisors assigned to each college. They are very familiar with what employers and vet schools want in an applicant and will help you to achieve that! They helped me with my application as well as helped create a similar environment to what the OVC interview would be like to help me practice. This also was extremely helpful and made the actual OVC interview feel easy!
3) Current OVC students! When I was applying, I reached to as many OVC students as I knew and just went out to coffee with them. It was really helpful to hear about the process from their perspective and any recommendations they may have had. Several of them also offered to look over my application for me and made suggestions on how to prepare which was really helpful as well!

Great suggestions above- I tried toastmasters myself back in the day and it was great. However, you have to be careful with reaching out to current vet students for free advice. Some will definitely be thorough in completely editing your application but others will just glance through it and tell you “Good job!!” When it’s really not. The latter happened to me but you can’t blame them I guess, they are doing you a favour. That’s when I reached out to the consultant Brittany from FMD (or AcceptedTogether, whatever it’s called now) who truly was the reason I got in

Is anyone using admissions companies for interview prep for the VMI? I know they have a bunch of seminars coming up but would love some 1-on-1 practice

Back when I was applying, I practiced with other prevets in my program. Honestly, the most useful for me was to record myself and watch the recordings (major cringe). I also used a consultant which was pretty useful since they gave advice I would have never thought of
