I have a degree in Computer Science and I'm looking at U of Guelph's course prerequisites for their DVM program. I've taken some of those in college, specificly the Math's and Social Sciences.
Can I just take the rest of the prerequisites here in Toronto and inform the college that I'm not intending to earn a degree for it?

Hi Boots
One of the requirements for the DVM program is that you complete two years of an undergraduate progam at university so you will probably need to take four full time semesters.

Hi boots,
when I was preparing my application I took two 'non-degree' terms at my university to take the prerequisites. You do not necessarily have to be taking courses towards a degree when you are taking re-preqs.
The only difference is that I had all 8 of my prereqs approved by admissions at OVC before taking them.
hope this helps, but best way to contact admissions directly. I think some of the applicants were able to use their courses from the past (so approved after they took them?)

Thank you. Yes I did attend university and earned an undergrad degree... But this was in 2007. It's been a while. By the time I've acquired all the prerequisite courses, 6 years would have already passed.
Are there cases where an application is rejected based on the long gap?

Yes many. If you did a bachelor's degree you only need to take the prerequisites in a full time semester as part of a non-degree study

Hello, I hold a 2001 BSc degree (Advanced Major Biology) from Dalhousie University and a 2007 Veterinary Technician diploma from Seneca College. I have been working in Toronto as a Registered Veterinary Technician for the past five years. I am interested in becoming a student at the University of Guelph's Veterinary College to obtain my DVM. I have thoroughly reviewed the admissions requirements page on the OVC website and was wondering if my university degree is outdated. The reason I ask this question is because I have also inquired about beginning my studies at the University of Prince Edward Island and they require all prerequisite courses be completed within six years of the date of application. Any feedback would be very much appreciated.

Hello Hyden, I'm not sure what the rule is for your case, but Elizabeth may be able to tell you. I would send an email to admissions to get an official answer; good to know ASAP so you can plan accordingly!
