Hi,
I was just wondering when the internal transfer application would be opening so we could apply for the DVM program?
Also can we send our MCAT marks in now or should we wait until we actually apply? I don't want them to get lost in the shuffle and be disqualified because I sent them in to early!
Thank-you

Thank-you I've never found anywhere where it gives a date when the internal transfer form opens, beyond being sometime in mid-fall. From what I can remember of previous years, I think it's probably late October or early November. In any case, it's all done online, I think it's a pretty simple form, and it's not even due until January 1, so you'll have plenty of time even if you don't look into it until sometime in November. As for the MCAT scores: in the presentation a few weeks ago for unsuccessful or future applicants, Ms. Lowenger briefly mentioned that applicants could release their scores as early as they want to. Again, these aren't due until January 1, so you'd be fine waiting a bit as well. Essentially: either way would probably be fine. Also, once you have submitted an application you'll be able to check that admissions has received the documents you have sent (including MCAT scores), so you don't have to worry about them simply being lost, and never knowing.

I have another question about the internal transfer form There is an activities section and support letter question. Do we have to fill out any of these given we will be filling out a detailed background information form once we pay the application fee.

I answered the same question last fall, so I'm just pasting my previous response below: ...I didn't go to Guelph, so unfortunately I can't speak from direct experience with the UofG internal transfer form, but the OUAC application/transfer form was a similar process, so I'll go from that: I honestly doubt the folks at OVC actually use the activities/extracurriculars info directly from the OUAC or UofG forms, as anything you might enter there I'm assuming you would also put in the OVC's own BIF, which covers all your activities in more detail and in the format OVC wants. I think the OUAC/UofG forms have these sections just because they are part of a very generalized application process, but since OVC has a specialized BIF for this type information, they get it from the BIF itself.
With that said, ...I filled out this section since I already had the info gathered for eventually filling out my BIF (or, more accurately, gathered the info to fill out the OUAC form, then used it when filling out the BIF), and it takes almost no time, so I did it anyways. But you'd most probably be safe either way.

Hy guys,
Does anyone know when we get any thanks for applying sort of thing in the mail (similar to when you got accepted to your undergrad) and when do we get the envelopes and seals for the reference letters?
Also does anything show up on web advisor with our application status, i.e. if it's been received. My credit card payment went through I just haven't gotten any conformation that I'm officially an applicant.
Thanks!

Hy guys, Does anyone know when we get any thanks for applying sort of thing in the mail (similar to when you got accepted to your undergrad) and when do we get the envelopes and seals for the reference letters? Also does anything show up on web advisor with our application status, i.e. if it's been received. My credit card payment went through I just haven't gotten any conformation that I'm officially an applicant. Thanks! When I applied several years ago as an external student via OUAC, I seem to remember getting a letter from UofG itself sometime in November maybe, which just confirmed the receipt of my application and provided me with a GryphMail account ( EDIT: I looked back through my GryphMail, and found that it was created November 25 of my application year, so that would have been around when I got my letter confirming receipt of my application). If you're currently a UofG student applying via the internal transfer process, unfortunately I don't know what if anything you get. However, in any case, you can check the progress of your application on WebAdvisor via the " Admission Status" page (on the right hand side of the main page, under the " Admission Information" section). Specifically related to your question about checking if your application has been received, the table will list a date in the " Received" column once your application has been received and updated into WebAdvisor. Just make sure you are looking in the row corresponding to the DVM program if you have made prior applications to UofG, and be aware that WebAdvisor updates range from days to a couple weeks, so sometimes it may take a bit of time for updates to show up. The " Documents" page will also be one you will want to check in on every once in a while (on the right hand side of the main page, under the " Communication" section), as it will let you keep track of when they receive your documents (i.e., MCAT scores, BIF, transcripts if necessary). Assuming they're still doing the envelope-for-your-references-thing, you'd get that sometime in the new year. Don't get too excited; going by my year at least, it literally is just a large envelope (with admissions' address printed on it, and your name and address as the return address) into which you can put all your individual reference envelopes so you can mail them all in together. There aren't any "seals" for the envelopes mailed out so I don't know what you're thinking of there, except that all that is required is for your individual referees to seal their completed references into an envelope, and then sign over the flap to ensure confidentiality and make sure the applicant doesn't tamper with the reference in any way.

Thank-you I was confused because everyone I've spoken to has made a big deal about the sign and seal portion of the envelope. I just assumed there was a special seal type thing that had to go over them.
So I can go get my references done now and just put them in the envelope when it comes eventually? (this makes so much more sense then it did they way I was thinking it went)
Thanks

Thank-you I was confused because everyone I've spoken to has made a big deal about the sign and seal portion of the envelope. I just assumed there was a special seal type thing that had to go over them. DVM program applicants stressing out and over-focusing on minutiae...never... So I can go get my references done now and just put them in the envelope when it comes eventually? (this makes so much more sense then it did they way I was thinking it went) Yes. The whole references process goes as follows: - Provide your referees with the assessment form for the Fall 2014 entry application cycle, hard copy or the link (current direct link; otherwise, just follow the link for "Referee Assessments" on the admissions' non-academic requirements web site)
- Each referee completes the assessment form, and also writes the additional letter of reference outlined on the assessment form:
e.) Please attach an additional page to support your ranking of the applicant. Please note any attributes or flaws which, in your opinion, make this applicant particularly suitable or unsuitable for a career in veterinary medicine. If you are writing a letter of reference for a graduate cohort applicant please include information on the quality of his or her research ability and performance as a graduate student. - Each referee then places the form and reference letter into an envelope, seals the envelope, and signs across the seal/flap, per the instructions at the bottom of the second page of the assessment form:
All assessment forms are confidential and information will not be released to the applicant. Please place this letter of recommendation in a sealed envelope, and send directly to the applicant. To ensure confidentiality, please sign the back of the envelope across the seal. I think the main reason people make a big deal about this is that every year there are some referees who forget to do this, and thus some applicants are rushing around at the last minute trying to get things signed, and/or worrying that it's going to derail their application. So, moral of the story: nicely remind your referees to sign over the seal of the envelope when asking for your reference.
- You will then pick up these sealed envelopes, or your referees will mail them to you (make sure they do NOT mail them to the university).
- Assuming the process is still the same as my year, sometime in the new year admissions sends out an envelope to applicants. You will place all three of the references you have gathered into this larger envelope, and then mail it to the admissions office. Be nice on the admissions people by making sure to label everything with your name and student number.
The current form is available now (as linked to above), so if you feel you're all set for your references you're free to start gathering them whenever you want, and this will allow your referees plenty of time to complete them at their leisure. You don't have to get them to admissions until until March 1, so there's definitely no rush though.

Hi there, So is everyone filling out the activities section of the internal transfer form? It says to indicate activities when you were not a full time student, so does that mean I don't need to list any?
Please let me know, preferably from someone who has succesfully submitted the internal transfer application not the OUAC

Hey I called admissions services and the activity section is only for activities you did while away from school completely not just during summer i.e. gap year.
Since I haven't taken anytime of between school I don't have to fill it out and same with everyone in that situation.
I triple checked this when I was on the phone with admin services before I submitted it!
hope this helps, if your still unsure you can always give them a call (just call undergrad admin services)

So on the internal transfer form is anyone writing the support letter? Do we need to/should we do this considering we are writing an essay for the BIF? Thanks for the help

It says on the form that DVM applicants don;t need to write a support letter. The activities section is just for those who have taken a break (longer the the 4 month summer semester) off of school. So if you didn't take any time off (except summer) between High school, undergrad and applying, you don't need to fill this section out.

I was just wondering if the internal transfer form automatically sent our transcripts to OVC or do we have to request them to be sent over?
Thanks

I was just wondering if the internal transfer form automatically sent our transcripts to OVC or do we have to request them to be sent over? University of Guelph transcripts are automatically sent/transferred to admissions. If you are currently studying or have previously studied at an external university however, you will have to request that university send your transcript directly to UofG admissions. If I recall correctly, this was done/requested within the OUAC 105D form for external students for all Ontario universities, while out-of-province universities needed to be contacted directly to send a transcript directly to UofG admissions. So, to repeat and summarize: University of Guelph: sent automatically in response to the internal transfer form submission; no further action required.
Other Ontario Universities: for external students, transcripts requested within the OUAC 105D form when applying to the DVM program. For current UofG students who previously studied at an external university, transcripts would have to be requested directly from the external university since the internal transfer form, and not OUAC, would be used.
Out-of-Province Universities: contact that university directly to request a transcript be sent directly to UofG admissions. Reference: Checklist for Canadians applying to the University of Guelph DVM program
