Hey guys, I am going back in the Fall to take a non degree semester to hopefully boost my grades and make my application more competitive. I have already graduated, but want to do just one more semester. However the clause on the acceptable courses list has me worried, the one that states that those coming back must take courses at the highest level possible for them. Does anyone know the specifics of this? Do I have to take all 4th year courses? Or just take courses at the highest level I can within those areas? For example I want to take: BIOC*3560 (took 2580, but I can't take a 4th year as I don't have the pre reqs) BIOM*3200( again don't have the pre reqs for 4th year but do for this course, have not taken any other BIOM courses) (1.0 credits) PSYC*2310(have never taken a PSYC course, and already need to be signed in to this one for missing pre reqs) ENVS*1060DE (Again have never taken an ENVS course) Does anyone see a problem with this semester? I have tried emailing Deanna Lundmark to ask but it has been awhile and she has not gotten back to me... Thanks for your help/advice

It is the maximum level for you. Obviously you can't take a course for which you do not have the prerequisites. This rule is to keep you challenged and to make sure you don't repeat content.

Ok, so what do I do if I'm a U of G student?
"Courses will not be acceptable if ... significant overlap in content." Then later, "THIS PROCESS IS NOT FOR UNIVERSITY OF GUELPH COURSES. Please do not email course evaluation requests."
So how do I find out? The lady at the desk was less than useful this morning when I asked.

The only person who does course approval is Deanna Lundmark. So asking someone at the desk will not be useful.
For U of G students you already have a list of acceptable courses. From there you have to judge if the content overlaps. Obviously if you've never taken a course in this area before you don't have to worry about repeated content.
Have you discussed your plan with your academic advisor?

I saw him this week but I didn't think to ask about this specifically. I will email.

My academic advisor advised that since both courses are at the 3000 level, they .might. not count. Has anyone taken MBG*3090 Applied Animal Breeding and BIOL*3020 Population Genetics? They're the courses I'm worried might overlap. I have also taken MBG*3060 Quantitative Genetics but I think that will be ok.
