Hey guys, this may be repetitive and frustrating given my lack of research, but I'm hoping you guys can still help! ^^ Thanks in advance.
So here's the situation. I'm currently a third year student at UofT (life sciences). Even though I always loved animals and wanted to help them, it was only recently that I realized I want to pursue it. However, I'm stumped on my chances of getting in.
When I was back in high school, I had some experience volunteering at the Humane Society, but since then I haven't had any more experience (unless of course you count my pets! lol jkz, that doesn't count). My average for the last two full time semesters should be in the low 80s, and my prerequisites should at least be an 80. (I didn't do so hot in humanities/social science and stats.... avg like 78% for all three). I'm thinking of taking my MCAT this summer, but the problem is that I'm going to be doing a 4th year research project for the summer as well which demands about 20-30 hours/week. So I wouldn't have too many hours volunteering or working at an animal clinic by the end of the summer - maybe about 3-5 hours per week. Is there an average amount I should aim for? I would really prefer to apply for this coming Jan so that I won't be too old when I finish. T^T (plus, if I don't end up getting in and eventually have to rely on a backup, it'd just be a lot of time wasted) I don't have too many extracurricular activities. I was very involved in high school but since then I've only volunteered at a hospital, at a pharmacy, and as an orientation leader. So my question is, what should I do at this point? >_<
What're my chances of getting in (based on the average, extracurriculars, and the limited number of hours I would have by the end of the year)? Do you have any suggestions on how I should approach this, given my situation? And in what scenarios should I consider schools abroad (they're super expensive!) and which schools (preferably American schools). Thanks in advance and don't hesitate to ask me for further information.
Best,
