Hey guys,
While my average hovers around the 80% range I'm wondering if having a large amount of animal experience (2000-3000 hours) in a wide range of places/species and still currently doing most of it will hold any value if my veterinary experience is only around 300 hours of experience and about 2ish years old. I have heard a lot of people say there is no point in applying without current veterinary experience and without an average over 85% so I figured I'd ask around here what everyone else thinks.
Thanks guys

Hi tcn334
I guess the best way to tell if you are competitive is to look at the stats from previous cycles. While averages are in the mid to high 80s that is the average. There are people at the lower end of the spectrum in the low 80s high 70s that did get in, but for sure higher marks make you more likely to end up in the top 200 to be interviewed. Your experience and references will help you get an interview and may even help you in the interview itself.

Hi Elizabeth,
I was wondering about your statement, "Your experience and references will help you get an interview and may even help you in the interview itself.", because I was under the assumption that in order to get an interview, your grades must be within the top 200 applicants- that is, only grades will be referenced when making decisions for interview acceptances. I would appreciate some clarification, just to know if only grades are looked at for interviews OR grades AND experience+references. Thank you!

After eveyone is ranked by grades first, the files are reviewed by the committee. This is where good references are key.

Hi Elizabeth,
Just to clarify, since this is something I have been questioning as well, do the grades determine the top applicants, or are everyone's files viewed, despite averages?
Thanks!
