Dear All,
I was wondering if a thesis course in my 4th year would be accepted as part of my admission average. I have heard that if I take a 6 unit thesis (1 credit in UoG terms) I am fine, but if I take a 9 unit (1.5 credits) it is not acceptable. My thesis prof is urging me to do 9 units, so I'd appreciate any information you can give me.
Thanks!

Hi Aquavet, This is definitely something to ask admissions about directly, as your situation is quite specific and not commonly brought up.

Hey Joel,
Thanks for responding, I'll try asking them tonight on the online chat at 7.
Thanks, Aquavet.

Hi everyone! I was wondering the same thing, I have a 12 credit thesis but am not sure how that would be weighted. Any help would be great!

Hi Hadrew
Any weight course is fine, not sure where this info is coming from. As long as you take 15 credits per semester (or U of G's 2.5) the semester is considered full time.
HOWEVER if you take a course that runs over a year we cannot use the semester average of the first half year since the average does not include the year-long course's mark. You can still use individual courses as prerequisites (since you have studied full time) but not the semester average.

Thanks for getting back to me Ms.Lowenger!!
So just to make sure I understand, my thesis mark would be counted in my Fourth Year Winter semester but not in the Fall semester? Thanks again!

You wouldn't have a mark in the fall semester. So this is true.
BUT we couldn't use that fall semester as one of the last two full time semester GPAs since the average for that semester would only be based on 4 courses.

Unless the disclaimer on the website changed, when I applied, I had my 1.5 credit thesis course approved ahead of time. I was VERY COMMON for honours students at my university to do the thesis course, and thus, was considered to be a "normal" way to get the degree. Deanna Lundmark (or someone who works with her) approved both those semesters with they course after I had a letter sent.

Hi Guest 1620! What do you mean exactly by having both semesters approved?
Basically, my current situation is, I'm taking a 12 credit thesis in which 6 credits are assigned in the fall term and 6 credits assigned in the winter term. I took three other classes this term (making my fall term a full course load). However, in the winter term I'm only taking 2 other courses because I only need that many credits to graduate (so as of right now, my winter term is not a "full-time semester"). So I'm thinking about taking another class for the winter term to make it a full time semester. But I wouldn't need to if my Fall semester term is counted, is that what you had done??
Sorry, I know that was a lot of information, I just wanted to make an informed decision before taking on another class because next term will be very hectic with writing a thesis and all. Just want to CONFIRM that my fall term will not be counted but my winter term will be!
