LETTERS RECEIVED
The letter you got in the fall was definitely
far too early for the letter I previously referred to as coming with an addressed envelope for your references. I don't know myself who your letter in the fall was addressed from, so there are two possibilities I can think of:
- It came from OUAC and was just their own letter, which is separate and essentially just OUAC confirming you are applying to an Ontario university program. (I actually don't recall if OUAC sent out a letter, just an e-mail, or nothing)
- Alternatively, what you're more than likely referring to is a letter I now recall coming from UofG soon after applying that gave login information for a UofG account ("central login ID" and password), as well as a UofG student number. Again, this is not the letter I was referring to in my previous post above; this letter is again just welcoming you to the application process at UofG and providing some necessary information.
The letter you are
still waiting on comes from OVC/UofG admissions, and is sent out
AFTER January 1st (i.e., sometime soon) once all applications have been received. This letter acknowledges your application to the DVM program specifically, and should contain the pre-addressed envelope everyone is so eagerly awaiting. So,
yes, you are still waiting on this "second" confirmation letter.
TRANSCRIPTS VIA OUAC
You are absolutely correct: for those applying through OUAC (i.e., external/non-UofG students), there is indeed a step where you request your transcripts for any
Ontario post-secondary institutions. OUAC then takes the step
on your behalf of requesting a transcript from your Ontario post-secondary institution(s). So, if you've only ever attended post-secondary in
Ontario, and completed this step during the OUAC application, your transcripts should already be on their way to or already arrived at UofG admissions. No further action is required on your part so far as transcripts go.
One little twist on this is for anyone who attended a post-secondary institution
outside Ontario (e.g., I was at McGill for a bit). For these people, there is no means of automatically sending a transcript via OUAC (if I recall correctly), so they have to contact their out-of-province institution personally to get a transcript sent directly to UofG.
KEEPING TABS ON YOUR APPLICATION
UofG uses WebAdvisor for their registrar related activities (e.g., applications, payment, etc.):
webadvisor.uoguelph.caFrom here, you can check the status of your application and check what documents (e.g., transcripts, MCAT scores, references, etc.) have been received as follows:
1.) Login (button in the upper right. This is the "
central login ID" and password UofG probably sent you in the fall as a non-UofG student; UofG students already have this)
2.) Go to the "
Applicants" sub-menu (on the right, under "
Main Menu")
3.) Under "
Communications" click "
Documents"
This will display a table listing all the documents relating to your application already received by admissions (do note the disclaimer at the top though, as it can take a few weeks for things to show as received).
4.) Back on the main "
Applicants" page, under "
Admission Information" you can click "
Admission Status." This will display the current status of your application. This is where you can check your status and, going by my year, is the
first place you will learn about the final decision (I also eventually got an e-mail a few days later, then a letter after a couple weeks).
At the moment, it's probably just something like "
Application received" for all of you. The key changes that happen are either:
YES: something along the lines of "Student admitted" or "Application successful."
NO: "Admission refused"
If you are successful, the final change is to "
Offer Accepted by Student" if you accept.
