Hi everyone!
So i am completing my BSc at UofT and decided last minute that I wanted to go to veterinary school. Unfortunately, I haven't taken any courses in a full course load since I need to work part time, and I pretty much have to do all my pre-reqs over again...
Does anyone know if they make any exceptions to this rule? I can't afford to go to another year of school (i did 6 years since I did two years in english), and I really need to go out and find a job next year, but then I can't get my pre-reqs done. Or do i not have a choice and have to suck it up and just do another year at school?
Also, is it true they do not accept summer courses?
Cheers and thanks in advanced!
Ming-Ming

As your case is relatively complex, your first step should probably be to contact Ms Deanna Lundmark so you can determine the best path forward. Be aware that she can be quite busy (especially at this time of the year dealing with applications), so it could take her quite a while (i.e., weeks) to respond. The advice I can offer is provided below: EXCEPTIONS TO FULL-TIME COURSE LOAD REQUIREMENT
I think the simple answer is that you'll probably have to return to school to complete the pre-req courses in a full-time semester at approved levels (as you have already completed many science courses, in addition to not being from UofG, the admissions office would have to assess your courses to determine the appropriate course level). I believe the only possibility you would be granted an exception for having taken the courses on a part-time basis would be if you were to write a letter to the OVC Admissions Committee outlining a requirement for the part-time course load and they accepted your argument. This is completely up to their discretion, and there is no guarantee your argument would be accepted. According to their pages: " appeals may take up to two months to process". Prior to starting the appeal process, you would contact Ms. Lundmark to determine if it is appropriate for your case. I believe the relevant information on the OVC admissions pages is as follows: [/i][/ul] [/li][li] There's also this somewhat relevant document intended for people who have already completed a degree and are returning to complete DVM program pre-req requirements, which outlines essentially the same thing as above: www.ovc.uoguelph.ca/recruitment/en/applyingtodvm/resources/ChangingyourCareerPath.pdf#follow link to changing career path document[/li][/ul] SUMMER COURSES
I am neither aware of any restriction on taking summer courses, nor can I think of any reason why they would have such a restriction. To the best of my knowledge, so long as courses are taken at a full-time course load and at the appropriate year-level, they are valid whatever semester they are taken in (i.e., Fall, Winter, or Summer). Again, all of the regulations regarding acceptable courses are outlined on the " Academic Requirements" page: www.ovc.uoguelph.ca/recruitment/en/applyingtodvm/Academicrequirements.asp

Hello, I just finished my undergrad degree at a university in Ontario in June. I would like to apply for the Animal Care Program at Sheridan college (8 months program) before applying for vet school. If I apply for DVM after doing 8 months of college, can I still use my last two university semesters or will I have to use the marks from the Animal Care Program? My marks during university were pretty good and I hope I can still use them to apply for vet school even if I do a year of college.

To clarify what I'm trying to ask: Will doing a year of college (Animal Care) affect my application to the OVC in anyway? Will I need to send my transcript from the college program/ would the marks be looked at by OVC?

They won't look at your college marks for admissions purposes but it would be useful if you were offered an interview. They only look at university courses completed within the last 10 years for admissions purposes.

Thanks oncovet! So it means I don't even need to submit the college transcript to OVC right?

I haven't taken any courses in a full course load since I need to work part time, and I pretty much have to do all my pre-reqs over again... Ming-Ming Your situation is why we have an appeals process. If you have to work due to your financial situation you can have this rule dropped as long as you make your case and provide a letter of support from your employer. First step is to make sure the course content for the courses you want to use as prererquisites is correct, then go through the appeals process. Work with Deanna Lundmark on this.
