Hi, I was watching the DVM Admissions video and this part (in the link below) kind of confused me. About the reference letters, do you mean the letter itself must be written in the year of application or the experience gained with the DVM who will be writing it must be obtained in the year of application? I knew it would be important to fill out the reference letter format for your specific application cycle but I wanted to know if the latter was also true (DVM experience must be in the year of application). Thanks for clarification www.youtube.com/watch?v=oB0ssUtO5Mw&t=19m14s

There is no time frame for experience/volunteering. The reference letter has to be written in the year of the application cycle. So for example you would ask your veterinarians and third reference for a reference letter in 2014 for this cohort, probably in January. More recent experience will probably give you a better reference (since they remember you better). Hope that helps.

I applied to OVC last year and received an interview but I did not get accepted. I am going to apply for the second time this year and I plan to use the same references because I still volunteer with them and they can give me good reference letters. I am wondering if I can use the same reference letters as last year if they still have the letters so that they do not need to rewrite the whole letter again. If I can use the same letters will it affect my chances of getting in in any way?
Thanks.

Yes: the same text can be used, or updated if needed, you'll obviously just have to get new copies of the letters themselves, sealed in signed envelopes. You will also have to get them to fill out new copies of the " Referee Assessment" sheet (current direct link for the Fall 2014 entry application cycle; or just access via the link on admissions' non-academic requirements web site), as a new version is released every year (mostly unchanged, save for the updated year, but just make sure you're using the current version as there could be other changes from year-to-year). If I can use the same letters will it affect my chances of getting in in any way? No: each application is a completely fresh start, and in no way affected by prior applications.
