So, next semester I want to take MCB*2050 to fufill my cellular bio requirement. However, the only time it;s available is when I have another course that I NEED toward my major, so obviously I cannot take it. So I am planning on taking it 3rd year. I cannot use this course toward my 8 required courses now, can i? Because it is a second year course that I will be taking in my third year? Secondly, there is a second year course that I also need to take in my third year according to my undergraduate caldendar in order to graduate from my program. If I take say, this course third year, and then say third year biochemistry, and decide to use that biochemistry mark toward my 8 required courses, will that course not be acceptable because I also took a second year course in that semester? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

If you haven't already, be sure to carefully read through all of the information available on the admissions web site regarding academic requirements, as this provides the answers to many prospective applicants' questions. Your concern specifically seems to be that taking a second-year (2000-level) course in your third-year will make that course and/or other courses in that semester unacceptable for the purposes of a DVM program application. However, under the " Important Regulations Regarding Acceptable Courses" section on the aforementioned page, there is the following point that is particularly relevant to your question: "For students in science programs with more than 10 credits, 60% percent of credits in each full-time semester must be taken at a 3000 level (third year level) or above. However, 40% of the credits in a full-time semester may be taken at the level of the applicant’s choice." (emphasis mine; note that 10 credits is what defines one as a "third-year" student) Hence you could, for example, actually take two 2000-level courses alongside three 3000-level (or higher) courses in a third-year semester, and it and its courses could still be acceptable, so long as all the other regulations were also followed. So, a 2000-level course can be acceptable even if taken in third-year, as can other courses in that semester, so long as all the other regulations are also met, especially keeping in mind the requirements regarding course levels (i.e., " Courses will not be acceptable if they are...taken at the same level or a lower level in a subject area than previously passed courses in the same subject area."). Now, also keep in mind that I and almost everyone else on this board are simply fellow students offering our insight based off of prior experience and our own reasoning, so if after looking at everything you remain unsure about anything regarding course acceptability and want a definitive answer, you really should contact Deanna Lundmark just to get the official word on things for your case in particular, and so you don't get a nasty surprise come application time.

I was just wondering if you can use a course twice on you BIF for the 8 pre reqs? I have a course that qualifies for both the cell bio and bio sic component, and that mark is better then the course I was using originally for the bio sci component I was just wondering if I could use it twice.
thanks

Hi,
I don't think that you can. I think they must be 8 individual courses rated at least at 0.5 credits. So you could not repeat one of the courses in a different category.

If you are using a 1.0 credit as one of the prereqs (ex. ANSC 1210 for an art/social sci), can you still use another 0.5 credit if that mark is higher? Would they then be able to count ANSC 1210 as 0.5 credits and use the other 0.5 to make 1.0 credits?
