Hi there,
Just looking to clarify what should be considered for this category. Is this section only for official awards, scholarships, and prizes given out for specific achievements? Or, could this section also include non-award based accomplishments that we are 'proud of', or "honoured" to have received? For example, what if we had been offered a masters position at a competitive school, or had achieved the highest mark in a class, or led a talk at a conference? Perhaps I am stretching the word honour, should it instead be taken literally? Thank you very much for your time.

Hi Rampant, This is a new section to the application.. wasn't on there last year. Honestly, I would say it's for official awards. For example, if you received employee of the month, probably not appropriate. If you were recognized as a top accomplisher for the year, probably something more worth mentioning. I would say if you've led a talk at a conference that could be more volunteer work or work experience if it was related to a job or educational endeavor. Highest mark in a class may be something noteworthy though...were you given any sort of official title or piece of paper for that accomplishment? Of course this is all opinion. I mean, you do have 6 spots so I guess you might as well use them Serena

Hi Serena,
Thank you for your input! I have nothing "official" to recognize the highest mark earned, just was told by the prof when the course ended. Is this something that should find its way into this section- or anywhere on my application for that matter? I would like to hear other opinions as well, thanks!

Please only put scholastic or community awards. Being offered a graduate position or being told that you had the highest mark in a class is not considered as an official honour or award.

Ms. Lundmark, There is no official description of this section within the BIF or on the admissions site like there is for vet and animal experiences (http://www.ovc.uoguelph.ca/recruitment/en/applyingtodvm/Nonacademicrequirements.asp) Is there another place we should find a description? A description would be helpful, even if its for next year's applicants. Thanks.

Deanna does not frequent this board so I'll pass this along. Usually an "Honours and Awards" section appears on many applications of this type and the thought was it was self-evident. Can you give me the link to where the info is missing from. If you mean it is not on www.ovc.uoguelph.ca/recruitment/en/applyingtodvm/Nonacademicrequirements.asp that is because it is not an admissions requirements.

Would being on the dean's honour list count as an award/honour?

Dear Elizabeth, What if you have been on the dean's honour list since your first semester at the University? Can I write on the date of the award the first time I was given the award and add in the brief description section that I have been on it since first year?
