I have been working through the BIF and have a couple of questions that I hope someone can help me with:
1.Dates, Hrs/week, and Total Hours - because many of my experiences have not been on a weekly basis I am having trouble filling these sections in as the numbers do not work out perfectly. Ex: I have been volunteering at a vet clinic since 2015, but only when I am home (Ottawa) from school (Guelph). Average shifts are 6 hours in length, and I have accumulated over 100 hours, BUT it is not a weekly commitment so putting 6 hours per week doesn't seem right. Also, the total number of hours is not 6 x the number of weeks since I started in 2015... How should I handle situations like this?
2.Description of Duties - should we be listing specific things that we have been involved with (ex: foreign body surgery) or more general tasks (ex: aided with various surgeries)?
Thank you in advance for the help!! Best of luck to everyone.

Hey! For your first question the way I handled it when I did my BIF a couple years ago was to use the average hours per week on the weeks I volunteered/worked, and the total hours and to/from dates written as usual. Since they didn't always add up for items without a strict weekly commitment, I clarified in the description section that the shifts were irregular (i.e. "hours listed were calculated based on X shifts total"). I wouldn't sweat too much about this as long as you are honest and accurate in providing that type of information, and giving clarification in the description where appropriate.
For the second question I would focus on ensuring that you can fit everything involved in the position/experience in the description, so it might be better to be more general, but again I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just show that you have put in the time and effort to learn about veterinary medicine - no one expects you to be an expert coming in.
Good luck!
