Hello OVC 2023 hopefuls! The application to the DVM program is starting, I am so excited to join all of you in applying this year! Just a few updates for admissions this year that I’ve gotten from the updated OVC website ( www.ovc.uoguelph.ca/dvm-program-application): - The class size will increase to 130. Unfortunately, this increase is entirely in the international cohort (25 vs 15 students previously) and appears to be more of a money grab by OVC than a serious effort to address the vet shortage in Ontario. (disinformation, see post below)- CASPer is now worth 30% of the pre-interview average, with the academic average now counting for 70%. (the website has now been changed back to the original 25/75 split, so this may have been a mistake). Independent of OVC there are also changes to the CASPer test, which now includes recorded video responses in addition to the usual typed responses. However, the Altus website seems to indicate that only the score from the typed portion will be transmitted to schools, indicating that the video responses are likely still in the testing stage this year. If anyone else has any updates for this year, please post them here! Best of luck everyone! EDIT: see post below for clarification regarding the increased class size

I saw this on the site you linked “Courses taken during non-degree professional programs and technical/certificate programs are not acceptable. “
Can anyone answer if this means students who do a non-degree semester to increase their averages don’t count? I don’t remember this being stated last year on their website but any clarification is helpful. Thank you 🥹

That was already there last year, I think they're referring specifically to college-level courses or other professional programs.
If you did a non-degree semester at a traditional, degree granting university then you should be fine!

Hello all,
After talking with admissions, I would like to apologize for my original comment regarding the increased class size.
Although it is true that the increase will only apply to the international cohort, it was incorrect and unfair to attribute this decision to a money grab on the part of OVC.
The DVM program is very expensive, and domestic students' education is heavily subsidized by the provincial government. OVC relies on public funding for its educational and research activities, and when this funding is insufficient, it is required to find alternative sources of income to continue to operate at the level of excellence for which it is known, hence the decision to accept more international students instead of domestic students.
Although this may be frustrating to those of us seeking admission to the domestic cohort, it is clear that OVC has and is continuing to try to find ways of supporting students and veterinarians in Ontario.

It seems like OVC is still tweaking their admissions website. The webpage I shared above is no longer directly accessible from the OVC website, and has also been modified back to the original 25/75 split for CASPer scores and academic averages. In addition, the academic calendar has been updated to say that both CASPer and Snapshot are required from now on ( calendar.uoguelph.ca/undergraduate-calendar/admission-information/specific-subject-requirements-recommendations), but that information isn't present on any other page... And the admission statistics from last year are still not available... Hopefully the admissions team will clear this up soon.

I'm skeptical because many applicants may already have finished their CASPer assessment and this Snapshot information wasn't clearly available to us... But this is what the website currently says:

But this is what the website currently says: Last year when we did Casper, snapshot is not immediately after. I believed we had time after Casper to do Snapshot separately. So even if they already did Casper they can do snapshot.

Hi lowenger,
Are there still no updates on Snapshot or on 2026 admission statistics?
Have any students from UofG heard anything? I know sometimes OVC communicates things through other channels (FVC, Facebook...), so please let us know if you've heard anything!

I check almost every other day. It's super unprofessional that they still haven't updated the admission statistics.

Hi all I'm looking into the Snapshot issue. Hi all. I think the U of G calendar is out of date and that Snapshot is not required (it isn't on the OVC website). I will follow up with the registrar's office

Are they done with the admission statistics? Or are they waiting until after the deadline for people to pull out their application?

I wanted to ask and have no source to clear it out, the admission academic average posted on class of 2025 posted on the OVC admission stats for the 2 full time sem avg + 8 pre-reqs . is that percentage or grade presented on the websit INCLUDING CASPER SCORE AVGEREAGE INCORPORATED IN TO THAT GRADE OR IS IT WITHOUT THE 25% OF CASPER AVERAGE ?
basically my question is the academic average in 2025 class stats is with casper weightage incorporated in that % or no ?

Hi there, For the 2025 cohort, CASPER was new due to COVID. We did not write Casper until you were invited for the interview, therefore those grades I believe do not include Casper grades. Casper also does not send our specific grades I believe they send OVC

i WANTED TO ASK ABOUT CASPER TEST, I HAVE IT BOOKED ON JANUARY 26TH AND I WANTED TO ASK ABOUT THE SNAPSHOT AS I WAS READING THE PREVIOUS COMMENTS, SO OVC NEEDS/checks grades for SNAPSHOT OR JUST THE WRITTEN RESPONSES ?

You should have gotten an email from the admissions office recently with additional information. I received this email from them on December 14th, check your inbox with the email that you gave them when you applied to the program. "The OVC will not be using the snapshot feature for admission purposes". So no they will not check snapshot.

Are they done with the admission statistics? Or are they waiting until after the deadline for people to pull out their application? Some of my classmates are helping out with mock interviews today for US applicants and ELo said likely they won’t be posting statistics for the class of 2026 due to it being “complicated”. I think because interviews were offered based on CASPER + grades, instead of just grades like in the past. Sorry everyone :/
