Hello,
I unfortunately didn't know about the official course approval process and by the time I learned about it, It was too late for me to check my ensure my courses would be approved before taking them. I am just worried about my Biochemistry course because it is an upper-year course and not the introductory course you take in the second year. Western has limited Biochemistry courses without being in the specific module or taken several chemistry prerequisites. Have any applicants used BIOCHEM 3392G - SYNTHETIC BIOLOGY as their biochemistry prerequisite?
This is the course description: An introduction to the principles of synthetic biology. Synthetic biology lies at the junction between basic biological research and technological innovation. This course will introduce the principles of the discipline and provide the foundation needed for those interested in pursuing more advanced studies in academic or industrial settings. The lectures will focus on designing biological constructs/genome, DNA synthesis and assembly, editing, delivery and installation in the destination organisms.
Thank you so much in advance!

Hey! That's really unfortunate about the timing. As a UWO grad, I totally understand the concern with the lack of biochem courses available to put forward to OVC. I took an upper year biochem (3386) and it was approved when I applied for the 2026 class. That being said, that doesn't mean that just because I got that course approved means anyone else taking that course will also automatically have it approved. To be safe, sending in your course evaluation with all your current, past and future courses will be your safest bet. As this is not possible in your case (if you applied for this cycle), you honestly just gotta hope that it is okay. In my experience of sending a million course evaluations to OVC, they have been pretty good at accepting the majority of the courses I put forward to them as prereqs from UWO. If you are applying for the next cycle or any cycle after that, make sure to send in your course eval for it as that will stay on your "application record" as automatically approved (if approved) for any application cycle you apply to. I don't think anybody here is able to confirm or deny that 3392 is okay for your application specifically as there has been a history of a course being approved for one person and denied for another person. Best of luck, hope to see you at OVC, fellow mustang!

Thank you so much for your help! I am definitely crossing my fingers. I was able to get into another upper year biochemistry course for next year just in case this one doesn’t work, so I’m gonna submit both. Hope I see you at OVC too fellow mustang! Hey!
