What do you guys think about the Canadian system of vet schools? Unlike med schools, most of us are stuck with trying for OVC, while all the med hopefuls can apply across the entire country. I wish we could do that.

It would be nice if we could apply to other schools as well and if the qualifications for each school stayed the same. I was thinking of applying to UPEI, but not only do you have to live there for a year to gain residency in my case I'd have to repeat courses because they're expired. I was also rejected with an average of 86 so now I'm not sure what to do.

Guest201, do you mind sharing your grades? I didn't think I saw them posted, but I agree it sounds like your experiences are good and if you had good references then it's likely your grades... 84.4 for pre-req and 84.8 for last 2 terms. Over 800 hours of working as veterinarian assistant + lots of volunteering with animals (including vet clinic and a rehab center in South Africa) Super nervous as I don't know if my marks will be high enough for an interview. Hi Guest7777 please answer only if you are comfortable but I was wondering whether you had received an interview place? I did not, with at 86.6 and 86.3 - I feel as though my veterinary hours were not sufficient and that may be why but was curious? Thanks!

Also, it does seem as though no one under 86 received an interview...

I was not offered an interview with 85.8 and 84.6 and over 1500 vet hours (SA and equine), over 5000 animal hours, experience starting and running a business, and really good references (I was able to read them). I was pretty gutted. However, I had been accepted to vet school in ireland. So as of august I will be moving there for school! If anyone has any questions about the process, I am happy to answer any questions. They really look at the whole picture!

I have an offer from UCD as well but haven't accepted. Wondered if I could ask a few questions.
