i agree with above! there are going to be SO many marks clustered right around 90-91 which means anyone in there has a good chance to get in if they ace their interview!

I received an interview with a 90.125%. Anyone know when we find out the date of the virtual interview?

Hi! Just out of curiosity, what did your experience look like? I had everything except research and cattle experience. Sorry to be a bother, I was wondering specifically how many hours. I was recently speaking with an advisor who told me that I should try to get at least 100 more veterinary experience hours. With the pandemic, it's been quite difficult to find someone who is taking volunteers. At the moment, I have 84 veterinary experience hours and 1,276.5 animal experience hours. Just wondering where I stand in comparison to those that got an interview this year. I am hoping to apply next round!

Your animal experience hours were much more extensive than mine, but I had around 3000+ hours with veterinarians built up over around 4-5 years. Getting varied experience with at least 100 hours, preferably more like a couple hundred across a couple different disciplines, is probably your best bet. I got an interview this year with a 93.5, but disregarding the mark, the more vet compared to animal is probably a better application. I only had roughly 300 animal experience hours, centred on working at a thoroughbred breeding operation, foaling out mares. Many horse barns are hiring, so I’d suggest investigating that avenue for more experience, as it can be a stepping stone to working with their vet.

Current ovc student here--don't sweat about an exact or minimum number of hours--OVC does not select applicants this way. If you want to get as many as possible, great! That's awesome, the more comfortable you are with different animal and veterinary environments, the more that benefits you as an individual making your way through this career. However, don't worry about it impacting your application. Applicants are not selected based on who has more hours or a greater variety of hours over another.

For the purpose of statistics, I've gotten an interview with with 89.9 average. With this being my third time applying I've applied to other schools abroad in the case that it doesn't work out. Realistically if the lowest admitted average last year was 90.485 I don't see much of a chance for those with averages below it. Frankly with grades inflating at the rate they are, the system OVC is using to judge applicants is outdated and unfair. I feel that with the MMI style it was at least easier to portray your communication skills as well the animal-related experienced we're all required to have. Personally the 15 minute virtual interview I had last year didn't allow me to express my personality or the skills that I would be bringing to the field. I genuinely hope OVC is at least willing to listen to the concerns of students and implement changes in the near future otherwise it'll be increasingly burnt-out students entering the field.

Just popping in to reply to guest3445 - don't lose hope! I know OVC listed their stats last year and that the lowest was 90.485, but the average I calculated was lower than that and I was admitted (and according to other posts on this forum I was not alone, and no I don't think I calculated it wrong). I had also applied to other schools in the event this wouldn't work out, but I'm proof that it just might! I wish you all the best, you can do this!

Yes unfortunately with this interview format, it seems that most applicants perform pretty homogenously so admissions are strongly dictated by academic average...
I'm not sure if interviewers were being particularly generous with everyone last year given the circumstances, which may be why interview scores didn't have a huge impact on rankings, or if the new format is just less good at differentiating candidates... But now that the pandemic has more or less become a way of life, and the changes aren't as disruptive, I think we may see larger variations in interview scores this year.
Either way, by next year I'm pretty sure the regular interview format will be restored so you will still have a good shot, even if you don't get in this year (fingers crossed that you will though!).
By the way, which international schools are you looking at? I've considered it too, but the cost is so high... My plan B is probably to move and work in Calgary for a few years to get Alberta residence and then apply there...

Just curious, did everyone do their undergraduate studies at UofGuelph? Or are your averages from other schools in Ontario or other parts of Canada?

Has anyone ever heard of them putting out more interview offers after the first round, maybe because people turned down their interviews?

Has anyone ever heard of them putting out more interview offers after the first round, maybe because people turned down their interviews? Not sure about interviews, although the deadline to reply was yesterday so if they were they would be coming out very soon as CASPer tests start next week. I've definitely heard about it for admissions, there's been a few people accepted off waiting lists in previous years.

does anyone know if CASPer and the personal interview are weighed equally to make up the 35% in our final admission average? (as 17.5% each?)

I applied with a 94.3% and got an interview. I didn't got to Guelph but had all my courses approved. The marks seem high this year! I thought I would feel more confident but honestly I could see it going either way. I thought the interview went well but Casper was weird and hard to judge.
